Nintendo and The Pokemon Company’s Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the best selling Pokemon game ever in Japan.

Famitsu has reported that sales of the Nintendo Switch title Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has exceeded 8.3 million copies in Japan, becoming the best selling game in the Pokémon series. These sales figures are as of November 18, 2024, exactly 2 years after the game’s release on November 18, 2022. Up until now, Pokémon Red and Green was the best-selling game in the country in the history of the series . This is the first time in the series’ 28-year history that this record has been broken.

Pokemon Red and Green was released on February 27, 1996, and is the beginning of the Pocket Monsters series. The game introduced several of the prominent gameplay elements that the series is known for. Since some Pokemon are unique to Pokemon Red and Pokemon Green, respectively, it became popular to trade Pokemon with friends in order to complete the encyclopedia.

Previously, a 4chan leaker, who has correctly leaked information on the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC in the past, had stated that Nintendo is working on a graphics enhancement patch for the games, which will allegedly take advantage of a new Nintendo Switch model that will be released alongside the second DLC. The leaker had claimed to be a programmer at a Pokemon outsourcing company, which is allegedly working on the aforementioned graphics enhancement patch for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. According to them, the patch will come alongside the second DLC. The leaker had also revealed new details regarding the second DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. According to them, the DLC’s focal themes are “Hidden Treasure of Area Zero” and “Hexagon”. According to the leaker, the DLC will add a new “Terrestrial” mechanic, whereby some Pokemon will be able to acquire new terrestrial forms.

The resolution and frame rate for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet both in the docked and handheld mode have been revealed.

In terms of both resolution and frame rate, Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet both fare rather poorly. Technical analysis confirms that the game runs at a resolution of dynamic 1080p in docked mode, dropping as low at 720p but generally hovering around 864p during most gameplay.

Meanwhile, in handheld mode, both games run at a resolution of dynamic 720p, dropping as low at 576p but generally hovering at or near 720p during most gameplay outside of towns. In practice, however, image quality isn’t ideal in either mode, as there is no anti-aliasing and limited post-processing, resulting in noticeable pixel crawl.

In terms of performance, both games target a frame rate of 30 fps in both the docked and portable mode, but constantly dips below it during traversal. Some frame rate dips are accompanied by over 100 ms frametime spikes, which are noticeable during gameplay as intrusive micro-pauses, taking much away from the experience. At worst, both games can run at 20 fps for extended periods while traveling through some towns or during certain cutscenes.

All in all, the game is in a rough technical state, especially in terms of performance. Therefore, at this point, it’s best for fans to wait until at least some of these issues are fixed.

Both Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet feature some exclusive Pokemon not found in the other version. In addition, the games have their own unique Pokemon professors, namely Professor Sada and Professor Turo. Professors in Pokemon games play an important role, as they serve as guides and mentors for the player. Those who opt for Pokemon Violet will meet Professor Turo, while players who pick up Pokemon Scarlet will be encounter Professor Sada instead.

How To Fix Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Performance Issues

The biggest issue with both Pokemon Scarlet and Violet comes in the form of frame rate drops, and performance is pretty inconsistent as a result. As it turns out, this appears to be due to a memory leak of some sort that is triggered when players arrive near towns or cities.

All you need to do in order to fix the issue is to restart the game. Doing so should take care of the frame rate drops and provide more stable performance. However, you may need do a restart every time you are near a city or a town, so it’s certainly not ideal. Nevertheless, it’s a workaround until an official fix is available from Nintendo.

Both Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet feature some exclusive Pokemon not found in the other version. Professors in Pokemon games play an important role, as they serve as guides and mentors for the player. Besides the aforementioned key difference between Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, there are some other minor changes, such as your base outfit being different depending on the version of the game you’re playing. Your outfit will appear orange in Pokémon Scarlet, and blue in Pokémon Violet. In addition, your trainer’s appearance will also be different across both versions.

The Pokémon Company has announced Generation 9 for the Pokémon series with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet which is out in late 2022.

They revealed the game during the recent Pokémon Presents event and confirmed that a brand new Pokémon generation is coming with the launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Not much is known about these new games at the moment except that they will continue the legacy of the Pokémon series by bringing a new set of starters and generation of new Pokémon.

You can take a look at the reveal trailer below. This appears to use the same engine that was seen in Pokémon Legends: Arceus which is an open-world game.

There are three starter Pokémon that was shown in the reveal trailer but they were seen in the form of an artwork. Here’s how they look in the game.

The first starter is a green cat. In the middle, we can see what appears to be a dragon-looking creature which is the second starter Pokémon. The last one looks like a duck. There is not much to go on based on these pictures but if we had to guess their type, the cat looks like a furry-grass type Pokémon, while the middle one looks like it could be a fire-dragon type Pokémon. The duck could be a water-type Pokêmon which is self-explanatory.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be out in late 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
