Spider-Man: Miles Morales was originally only available on the PS4 and PS5, but with the PC release this month, fans are likely interested in knowing how the console versions stack up against it.

The PC version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales supports improved features over the PS5 version, though they can be quite demanding and require reasonably capable hardware. This includes graphical options for higher quality ray-traced reflections and the brand new addition of ray-traced shadows.

As such, with these settings enabled, the PC version delivers more physically accurate shadows, reflections, ambient occlusion in some areas, as well as long distance shadows. However, it’s worth mentioning that Spider-Man: Miles Morales lacks a real-time day and night cycle. Therefore, the traditional mix of baked and real-time shadows on PS5 (and with ray-traced shadows disabled on PC) also gives great results here. The PC version also supports machine learning driven muscle deformation, which was also patched into the PS5 version some time after launch.

It’s also worth highlighting that ray-traced reflections on PC exhibit issues when displaying certain textures. This is likely to be a bug that may be fixed in a future update. Additionally, vegetation has better overall quality on PS5 compared to PC, and draw distance is slightly lower on PC compared to PS5, even with the latter running in RT Performance mode.

In terms of load times, the PS5 version takes the lead with considerably faster load times, even up against the PC version running on a modern NVMe SSD.

On the whole, the PC port delivers a worthwhile experience, with improved ray-traced reflections and the addition of ray-traced shadows, but it falls short of the PS5 version in some areas. This may or may not change in future updates.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a 2020 action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has received an update that has improved its reflections when using the ray-tracing performance mode on PS5.

Insomniac Games has implemented the same improvement to its ray-tracing technology in the new update as it did with the recent Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This allows the developers to improve the depth of the ray-traced reflections without sacrificing the image quality.

In the case of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the ray-tracing was already a step ahead of Miles Morales and the Spider-Man Remastered version, and now they appear to have carried this to Miles Morales at least.

This was all part of the new update for Miles Morales on the PS5 that patched the game to version 1.10. The patch notes mentioned the improvements in the changelog.

  • Improvements to ray-traced reflection quality in the Performance RT graphics mode

This appears to be the case based on our comparison. While the differences are hard to spot unless you really know where to look for them, they do exist as seen in the screenshots below. (Left is pre-patch and right is post-patch)

Keep in mind that this mode has not been implemented so far for the original Spider-Man Remastered version. It is only available for Miles Morales and the new Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but knowing Insomniac, it won’t be a big surprise to see this make it for the original Spider-Man Remastered as well.

Insomniac Games has updated Spider-Man: Miles Morales to version 1.08 today. Here’s what is included in this update as seen in the patch notes.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been updated on PS4 and while we can’t confirm it yet, this patch might also be out on the PS5. According to the patch notes, there doesn’t appear to be any special changes or additions in this update.

There are no patch notes available from Insomniac Games on their support website and this is the only update on PS4 to release after the PS5 patch that added RT Performance mode. Regardless, the changelog that is accessible on the PS4 mentions the following fixes.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales Update 1.08 Patch Notes

Fixes & Updates

  • Addressed and issue where Spider-Man could get locked in place during the Venom Dash Tutorial
  • Addressed an issue where black artifacts could appear on the screen
  • Improved stability in the Fidelity and Performance RT visual modes (PS5).
  • Improved various other stability related issues.
  • Addressed various additional issues

We are still looking into a list of potential fixes and will update the article once they are available. Right now, all we know is that this is a minor hotfix so there shouldn’t be any new additions in this patch.

The last patch for the game was released a little over 2 months ago so this update has been released after a long time.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available for both PS4 and PS5. It is cross-buy on both platforms while a special Remastered version of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man is also purchasable as part of the Ultimate Edition bundle.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales players are reporting that they are being sent an email by Sony that includes a bonus photo frame for the game.

Users on reddit and Twitter have shared an email that is currently being sent by Sony. This email provides a code that can be redeemed to unlock an exclusive photo frame that is used in the photo mode.

If you haven’t received any marketing emails from Sony, chances are that you have turned it off. Otherwise, if you have enabled the option to get marketing emails, you should check your inbox even if you haven’t platinumed Spider-Man: Miles Morales because so players are claiming that they have received the same code despite not achieving a platinum trophy.

Here’s how the photo frame looks like in action when using it in the game.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a successor to the original Marvel’s Spider-Man. It was released exclusively for the PS4 and PS5 and launched with an Ultimate Edition that comes with a remaster of the original Marvel’s Spider-Man.

While the email claims it is a reward for the Platinum trophy, there are reports from users that suggest that even if you don’t own the Platinum trophy, you can still get the email from Sony. The title of the email congratulates the user on achieving a Platinum trophy in the game so it should be easy to spot in your inbox.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available for $49.99 on PS4 and PS5. The game is also cross-buy so purchasing it on PS4 should lead to a free upgrade to the PS5 version and vice versa.

Insomniac Games has updated Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales to add a new 60 FPS mode with ray-tracing. Here’s how the game sacrifices visuals to run at 60 FPS.

As we have covered earlier today, there was a patch released for Spider-Man: Miles Morales that has added a 60 FPS ray-tracing mode to the game. This mode does lead to some visual sacrifices, like a lower bound 4K dynamic resolution as per Insomniac Games, but it runs rather well.

Here is a comparison of the game running at the 60 FPS performance mode with ray-tracing, and the standard performance mode with 60 FPS. Both of these run at dynamic 4K.

The links above offer a slider comparison between the two different modes. They should better highlight the difference. It is very easy to notice how crisp and clear the Fidelity mode looks like running in the 4K resolution. There is less density of the crowd and level-of-detail is also pared down by quite a lot.

The other comparison is between the Performance mode which again sacrifices some visuals to run at 60 FPS but also disables ray-tracing. This one again highlights a lower resolution overall for the new Performance mode making it look less sharp. The other difference is in the shadows, which are apparently missing for faraway objects while level-of-detail is pared down further. The perk here is the addition of ray-tracing, which looks phenomenal so it is not a bad sacrifice at all.

The second comparison better highlights the reduced shadows for the crowd in the ray-traced reflections. (Top = Performance with RT and Bottom = Fidelity with RT)

spider-man: miles morales comparison

Overall though, this is a solid update and a great performance mode by Insomniac Games that offers the best of both worlds for fans of the game.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales fans can now play through the game with 60 FPS enabled along with ray-tracing. This was a part of the update version 1.007.

This new patch was released today for the PS5 but as far as we can tell, there is no similar update released on the PS4. This is obviously due to the new performance mode that has been added to the game with the latest patch on PS5.

Previously, there were only two gameplay modes available in Spider-Man: Miles Morales. One offered ray-tracing at 30 FPS while the other mode included 60 FPS performance that didn’t use ray-tracing.

The update for Spider-Man: Miles Morales that has patched the game to version 1.007 appears to have implemented 60 FPS ray-tracing mode as seen in the screenshot below.

spider-man: miles morales 60 fps update

We currently don’t have any patch notes for this update available and the official website hasn’t been updated as of yet, but we can confirm this new ray-tracing performance mode. We are not sure of the resolution for this new graphics mode but it is referred to in-game as Performance RT. The description reads the following.

“This is an alternate version of the 60 frames per second ‘Performance’ mode, adding ray-tracing by adjusting the scene resolution, reflection quality, and pedestrian density.”

This might reduce the density of the pedestrians in the city but add reflective surfaces while keeping up 60 FPS performance, so in other words, it is the best of both worlds if you can deal with the slight downgrade in the level-of-detail and resolution.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales is also available for the PS4 but there doesn’t appear to be a similar update for it for now. If there is a patch, we will update this article with the patch notes for the PS4 and PS5.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales might not be free bugs, but this glitch takes the craziness to the max with a playable Patio Heater.

Glitches are a common part of every big game but we are not sure if there has ever been a glitch as hilarious as this one which turns Miles Morales into a Patio Heater. This would have been crazy enough, but the player is still able to control this Patio Heater as a normal Spider-Man performing web-swinging and so on.

The glitch was posted to Twiter and can be seen in action below. It was shared in response to a question where a user was asking about the best video game bugs. Whether this is the best bug or not, we have to see more of others to reach this conclusion. It is definitely the craziest one when it comes to Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

This led to a response from Into The Spider-Verse director Phil Lord, who wants to put this as one of the variations of Spider-Man into the upcoming Spider-Verse sequel.

Obviously, all of this attention also attracted Insomniac Games who chimed in to join the conversation. It was embarrassing to see this bug but they also had a tongue-in-cheek response by calling it “heart-warming” to see in action.

We are not sure how the user managed to swap his character to a Patio Heater, but we would have loved to see it in action with combat and web-swinging. Of course, it is important to mention that such glitches are not that common but regardless, it is still fun to see them pop out now and then.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been recently updated by Insomniac Games to add some issues with the game crashing and fixing various bugs. If there is a manual way to trigger this bug that turns Miles Morales into a Patio Heater, we would have loved to check it out ourself.
